Bio Note* | William was a photographer in Barnesville, Ohio. He was a veteran of the civil war, and a man who was esteemed and respected, in the town in which he was born and spent his life. In 1861 he enlisted as a private in company B. 3rd, regiment O.V.I. and served until April 1863 when he lost his left foot in the battle of Stone River. After regaining his health, he took up photography, being associated with his father-in-law, Handel Vance until 1874, and later continuing in that business until compelled by failing health to retire from active work. Mr. Barnes, although a quiet man, and not given to ostentatious display, was a great reader of literature, and well informed along many lines. He was devoted to his family and was always eager to render any service to gain additional happiness for his loved ones. |
