Little is known about our Skinner ancestors other then Elizabeth (Eliza) V. SKINNER (ca 1813-1897) married George W. CONNAROE (1815-1875) and by 1850 was living in Girard, Erie County,Pennsylvania. Eliza’s parents were Augustus (ca 1795-bef 1870) & Nancy SKINNER (ca 1792-1875).Nancy was captured alone in the 1870 census living with her daughter’s family in Girard.
It highly likely our Augustus SKINNER is the same person as referenced dying about 1868 in Girard by The Genealogical Exchange (Sep 1910).

A later submission discusses Lyman T. SKINNER’s family (son of Augustus).
Lyman T. Skinner (7), Augustus (6), Elias (5), Richard (4), (3), John (2) (1), born near Cobalt, Conn., 1818, married Elvira Emily Carr, 1840, Seagertown

Exchange, volume 7, number 12 (April 1911), page 90
Charles L. SKINNER is cited as the source for both references. Unfortunately, Charles L. Skinner was not further identified nor his original sources. He is likely descended from Lyman’s son Charles given the detail given.
Our research attempts to confirm the two Augustus SKINNERs are one and the same and to verify & expand on the information provided by Charles L SKINNER. However, despite similar death dates in Girard Pennsylvania, there is a sizable discrepancy in Augustus SKINNER’s birth year (ca 1775 vs ca 1795). Our birth year is based on the 1850 & 1860 census enumerations (not available to Charles in 1911) for the only Augustus SKINNER found in Erie County, Pennsylvania.
Augustus SKINNER’s descendants settled in Erie County, Pennsylvania, Chautauqua County, New York, and Michigan. Birth, marriage and death information is provided in the FredQuest Genealogical Database and this Skinner biography will be updated as research progresses.
