Joseph Ashley (1733-1776)

Joseph ASHLEY (James, Joseph, David, Robert), born 18 February 1733-4 in Westfield; Mass.; died 18 June 1776 in Westfield; married 6 May 1762 in Westfield, RHODA SACKETT, daughter of Eliakim and Thirsday (Fowler) Sackett, born 21 December 1740 in Westfield; died 25 September 1810 in Westfield.

Joseph Ashley seems to have been a farmer and to have spent all his life in Westfield. He lived near Litter River.

CHILDREN BORN IN WESTFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS

i.      JAMES, b. 23 Feb 1763; enlisted in the Revolution for three months service in Capt. Levi Ely's company in the Third Hampshire Regiment, Col, John Moseley, and was killed at the battle of Stone Arabia on 19 Oct 1780.  He was unmarried.

ii.     ROGER, b. 6 Feb 1765

iii.    RHODA, b. 20 Jan 1767; m. 5 Feb 1792, Seth Miller of Marlboro, Vt., and Fort Ann, N.Y.

iv.    STEPHEN, b. 12 Apr 1769

v.     PELETIAH, b. 19 Apr 1771

vi.    ELI, b. 30 Oct 1773
