"When the Civil War broke out Mr Fannin enlisted in the 12th Pennsylvania Cavalry and served three years and seven months. He was detailed as a member of the scouting party connected with Gen. Phil Sheridan's staff and made a gread record for bravery and efficiency in that line of military duty. He is mentioned in Gen. Sheridan's Memoirs as a scout of energy, daring and cleverness.

During the time he served as a scout, Mr Fannin had a number of exciting experiences and was once taken a captice at Staunton VA, where he had been sentenced to be shot at daybreak. During the night, howevery, he and his comrades dug themselves out of the prison and escaped.1,6

Born in Elmenton December 13, 1880, Mr. Fannin came to Bradford as a young man. He became secretary of the E.R. Caldwell and Company Foundry in 1900 and had been identified with the company since that time. A man of unassuming nature, Mr. Fannin had many friends here.
