Biographical Notes

Bio Obit*Charles Killinger was born in Benscreek, Aug 25, 1898, a son of the late Samuel and Mary Alice McIntosh Killinger. He began working in the Pennsylvania coal mines at the age of 12 and worked there for more than 17 years.
He then worked as an auto worker in Michigan and became one of the original organizers of the United Auto Workers in Flint, Mich., in the 1930s. He was a labor organizer for 25 years.
In 1960, he became a senior citizen advocate in Erie County, until his retirement in 1981. He organized 25 senior citizen clubs in the Erie area. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the St Mary’s Happy Hour Club.3
